J. Byrne Murphy: Chairman & Founder, DigiPlex Data Centers.
Byrne Murphy has thirty years’ experience in launching and growing new ventures. Over the past 25 years he has imported into Europe three newly created America concepts. These ventures include outlet shopping, private residence clubs, and data centers. All the ventures have won many, many awards and international recognition, and in aggregate they have created several billion dollars in asset value.
Mr. Murphy’s current venture is DigiPlex ( www.digiplex.com ), the largest data center operator in Scandinavia. Created upon the birth of the Internet in 2000, DigiPlex has won multiple awards for innovation, sustainability, and the best-in-class centers throughout EMEA. DigiPlex offers data center solutions of all sizes, from single rack requirements to a 12 megawatt, build-to-suit center on a 20 year contract with one of the world’s largest IT-service providers.
Mr. Murphy introduced into Europe the concept of private residence clubs with the redevelopment of Palazzo Tornabuoni ( www.palazzotornabuoni.com ), a $250 million restoration of a 15th century Medici palazzo in the heart of Florence, Italy. Managed by Four Seasons, Palazzo Tornabuoni features Europe’s first Private Residence Club, and was awarded the 2010 Urban Land Insitute’s Award for Excellence. Club Tornabuoni has members from 34 countries around the world.
Prior to these ventures, Mr. Murphy was Deputy Chief Executive and co-founder of BAA McArthurGlen, Europe’s largest owner and operator of designer outlet centres. Within eight years of its launch, McArthurGlen was operating eleven centres in seven countries, comprising 1500 stores and nearly 600 brands. The centers generated approximately €1 billion in annual sales, 40 million annual shopping visits, and created nearly 8,000 jobs.
